Ch. 11- In chapter 11, if I were Jem or Scout, I probably would not have treated Mrs.Dubose the same way as they did. Mostly this is because, in my opinion, I am much more level headed and calm than Jem and Scout. I would definitely be offended, but I do not go picking fights. However, if I had a temper like Jem and Scout, perhaps I would have overreacted. Also, I would have been much nicer to Mrs.Dubose because she is simply a sick old lady. Although her nasty comments are quite uncouth, I would have attributed her ghastly behavior to not being in the right state of mind, given her age and illness. In addition, if I had known that she was a morphine addict earlier, I would have credited Mrs.Dubose’s conduct to crankiness from not having her morphine. If I had known all of this, I also would have seen that insulting me was her way of distracting herself from her addiction.
In Chapter 11, Jem and Scout are scolded by their mean neighbor, Mrs. Dubose. I probably wouldn't have responded in the same way they did. I am also more calm than Jem and Scout, and I wouldn't have wanted to upset an old crazy neighbor.
i wouldn't treat mrs dubose like scott and jem did. i wouldn't, because she older woman and older woman usually think they are right. also that jem is a calm person and he shouldn't respond in a bad way. they know better than to act the same as a mean person, so they shouldn't act that way
Abbey B,
Wonderful response, well done! You have a great range of grammar and vocab in your posting. You have answered the question stupendously!
Emily,
Thanks for your response. I enjoyed reading your answer. I too am a calm person and would have done the same as you. Keep up the good work!
Rudy,
Good work on this chapter. I am glad to hear that you wouldn't treat Mrs.Dubose that way. Do not forget to capitalize your "I"'s.
If I were Jem and scout, I would have probably done the same thing they did because they are both real hot heads and lose their heads quite easily, but I would have to agree with another comment, if I would've known that she was a morphine addict, I wouldn't have lost my lost my temper to rather rude comments because I would've known that it was caused by her lack of morphine use.
If I were Calpurnia, I would say that I had positive relationship with Scout more near this chapter than in the beginning because I would feel that i new her for a long time and treated her how a mother would treat her child even though I wasn't her mother. I would also feel that she trusted me, resuting in a positive influence on our relationship.
When Cal takes the children woth her to church and one member of the church has aproblem with it.
Ch.15- Two things that come to mind are the man that Atticus is defending in court and the black man that is being accused of raping a white man's daughter.
In chapter 11, if I were either Jem or scout I would probably would of treated Mrs.Dubose the oppisite that Scout and Jem did. Mrs.Dubose is just a sick old lady and should deserves to be treated better. She is their elder. I would of been more nicer because I am more calm and pacient while Jem and Scout are more hotheads.
A few things that come to my ming when I think of the name Tom Robinson is the name of the man who Atticus choose to defend in court. He is accused of raping a white man daughter. Where I think he is truely innocent. I also think of a poor black man tring to be proven guilty so he can go home to his wife and children. I truely hope that at the end of these next few chapters that it will be show that he did not do this to the young lady and that he can be let free or charge.
THE COMMENT ABOVE THIS WAS DONE BY MIA. G MARBLEHEAD
I would have treated her nicer than Jem and Scout. At first they don't like her because she is nasty and hates them. Still Jem and Scout should be nice to her since she is very old and didn't do anything to them. When Jem tares up her bushes he was out of control and shouldn't have done that. Then he had to read to her for a long time and Jem hated it. Scout came with Jem eventhough she didn't do anything she still did. Scout thought what Jem did was wrong. Also they shouldn't have been mean to her because she's so old and could die soon. In the end she died right after Jem stoped reading to her.
Marissa,
Way to get after the questions, great job! Interesting comments about you being Calpurnia, it makes sense. Great!
Mia G,
