Chapter 8

I would characterize Boo Radley as caring and shy after he placed the blanket on Scout's shoulder when she and Jem were watching Miss Maudie's house burn. This is because he doesn't want to be seen or draw attention to himself. However, he is very caring and kind to Scout and Jem. He looks after them without anyone else knowing it.

I do agree with you Kate. Great observation about Boo Radley. I also think he is a very caring and kind person and I think that everyone has misunderstood him for a long time but when he put the blanket around Scout's shoulders that proved to me that he was no doubt a kind and caring person. Great Comment

I think Jem was so quite days after getting his pants back because he was trying to figure out the situation.Jem noticed that night that they where folded on the fence which he was suspicious of since they where all tangled up when he left them.Than Jem noticed that the holes where sewed, but he must of really looked at them because he could tell they where not properly sewn but more like something he would do.All the days he was so quite he was probably putting togather what he saw that night and how the pants where sewed.

I think that Boo Radley sewed Jems pants.I think Boo would do this because he wanted to be friendly to Jem and let him know that he is not the same scary person they think he is.

Molly, I think that your insights about who sewed Jem's pants are very interesting. Maybe Boo isn't the scary and menacing character that the children think he is. Great Job!

I think the person who sewed Jem's pants and hung them back on the fence was Boo Radley. Even though the neighborhood portrays him to be this mean, scary, and unkind person, he does things that help the townspeople. Like the tree, he put little gifts in for Scout and Jem. He mended Jem's pants. I think that he is trying to show people he is not a monster, but he has no other way of showing it. If he came out of his house, then the townspeople would be scared of him or do something to hurt him because they didn't understand him. And the stories people heard about him were just rumors that escalated into something he never was. He had no control over what people said, and he had no one to turn to, and therefore became a shut-in. I think that Jem and Scout are going to help Boo overcome this monstrosity in a some way, be it big or small.

CH 9:
I think that Atticus is defending Tom because he knows for a fact that Tom is innocent. Even though Atticus knows that Tom wont win the case, Atticus still has morals and feels he must defend Tom because that is the righteous thing to do.

Chapter 8: I think Boo Radley is very quiet and shy, but deffinately a good person. He is caring, but I don't think he knows how to function around a lot people. I think Scout and Jem were really shocked to figure out that Boo would act like that. I think since Boo put the blanket on Scout, she got a totally different view about him.

I think Atticus is defending Tom because he knows it's right. It not only is part of his job, but he also feels if he doesn't, he will lose the respect of his family. He also wants to show Jem and Scout that the only way to get things done is to try your hardest, and not give up, no matter how little of a chance there is of winning.

Ellie, I do agree with you about Boo Radley. I also think he is the one doing all the nice things for the people. I also think that he won't let himself be seen because the people of the town would not know how to react to him. I think he is a kind person at heart and I think Jem and Scout will see this and try to help him.

John and Emilie, I totally agree with you both that Atticus took the case because he truly thought Tom was innocent. Atticus is trying to teach his family that no matter what other people think you should always listen to your heart and Atticus is helping Tom because he believes he is innocent. Great observation both of you.

Molly, I agree with you also. I think that Boo Radley is the person who sewed Jem's pants. I think that we are beginning to see a side of Boo Radley that the children think was nonexistent.
