Chapter 16
Why do you think Reverend Sykes invited Jem, Scout, and Dill to sit in the African American balcony?
Chapter 17
Atticus had Mr. Ewell write his name. Why do you feel he did this?
Chapter 18
Mayella said that Atticus was mocking her. Why do you think she felt this way? Why do you think Atticus told her that it was okay for her to cry?
Chapter 19
At the end of this chapter, Mr. Dolphus Raymond said to Dill, "You aren't thin-hided, it just makes you sick, doesn't it?" What does he mean by this? If you were Dill, how would you have felt?
Chapter 20

ch 19
Mr. Dolphus Raymond meant that it made him so sad and angry at the way blacks were treated he felt sick and Dill was experiencing the same feeling. If I were Dill I would feel the same way he and Mr. Dolphus Raymond felt. The fact that someone isn't treated fairly because of how they look is awful. It is even worse that it occurs in a trial when you really need to be treated fairly or you could lose your life.
Chapter 17
Atticus had Mr. Ewell write his name to show that he is left handed. Mayella’s injuries were primarily on the right side of her face, meaning that a left handed person most likely beat her. Atticus knows that if Tom Robinson is right handed, it is not possible that he could have been the one to injure Mayella.
I think Reverend Sykes invited Jem, Scout, and Dill to sit in the African American balcony for two main reasons. They were to prove a point and to set an example. The point he was trying to prove was that everybody should be treated equal and blacks and whites are similar in more ways than not. But that point is very hard to prove because you can’t make people agree with you with out their agreement. Reverend Sykes was also trying to set and example of if I give respect to white people, than you should too. Those are the two reasons in my opinion why Reverend Sykes invited Jem Scout, Dill to sit in th African American Balcony.
Kate--I agree that Mr. Raymond didn't agree with how blacks were treated. I also feel that he felt bad that Dill was experiencing this at such a young age. I think that it hurt him to see a child struggling to understand such hate.
Maggie--Atticus was able to prove that it was nearly impossible for Tom to have committed the crime. It is a shame that even though he did this, the jury still might not vote in his favor.
Kaitlin--I agree with your two reasons why Reverend Sykes invited the children to sit with him. I also feel that he respected what Atticus was doing for Tom and wanted to show the same respect to his family.
Ch 17 Atticus wants to know witch hand bob prefers. The jury finds that bob is left handed. This is important because the left side of Mayella's face was damaged. This means it could have been bob who struck his daughter. He could have held her with his right and beat her with his left. This evidence almost guarantees that if tom is right handed he is innocent. Although this can be nullified if Tom is illiterate. Also the evidence is circumstantial. Tom could have easily punched the left side of her face.
